Description:: All Walks of Life Inc Selected as Recipient of Comcast Cares Day
The local non-profit will team up with Comcast volunteers to revitalize the St. Pius Family Resource Center on May 3rd.

(Savannah, GA) April 16, 2008 – The annual Comcast Cares Day is the one day throughout the year that Comcast employees unite to serve their community by volunteering to help a local non-profit. This year, Comcast has selected local arts education organization All Walks of Life Inc. to be its recipient and will partner with AWOL to help revitalize the St. Pius Family Resource Center on the eastside of Savannah. Over 60 dedicated Comcast employees and their families will join AWOL volunteers and staff to help clean up and restore the St. Pius Family Resource Center.

“AWOL is so very thankful to Comcast for investing in who we are and what we do with Savannahs youth,” says DaVena Jordan, AWOL’s Executive Director. “Comcast is the first large private entity to realize the success of AWOL programs and have been a long time contributor and supporter of our media education programs.”

Through a partnership with the Youth Futures Authority, the St. Pius facility has served as a space for AWOL programs as well as several other community-based youth groups to offer Savannah’s young people a safe, friendly environment for after school and evening programs. Most recently, AWOL utilized St. Pius as a rehearsal space for it’s annual theater program, which produces its Hip Hop History Play every February.

In addition to donating significant time and funds to help rehabilitate the St. Pius building, including painting, cleaning, repairing walls and moving out old furniture, Comcast will also make a small cash donation to AWOL, which will be dedicated toward expanding the organization’s after school programs. One of the major goals for Comcast Cares Day is to renovate the building’s computer lab, which will then be used to provide youth with valuable skills in computer technology.

“In order to change the outcomes for youth, its going to take the entire community,” Jordan says, “Including organizations like AWOL, the faith based community, and local government agencies all coming to the table to pitch in.”

The Comcast Cares Day is not open to public participation, however, we would cordially invite members of the media to come and see firsthand the actions being taken to help improve the services and facilities within the city that are directed toward helping offer educational and creative opportunities for Savannah’s youth population.
